Default A/C Noise --- 96 RL

Hey,

Posting about my g/f's 96 RL. When the air conditioning is turned on, it makes noise coming from under the hood. I can describe the noise as a friction or rubbing noise. When I turn the a/c off, the noise stops. Fan only does not make any noise. Fan speed does not affect noise. Engine speed does not seem to affect noise.

My guess is that it's the compressor cluth/bearing. Wanted to know if just the clutch/bearing can be replaced? Even though it makes noise when on, it still blows ice cold. I just dont want the thing to come apart on her while driving so I told her to keep the a/c off until fixed.

Thanks
