View Full Version : Will diesel fuel damage any part in an unleaded acura rsx? bergendan216 02-16-2008, 12:22 PM If yes what type of parts will be damaged please be specific. PROFESSIONAL ACURA TECHS. ONLY OR CERTIFIED MECHANICS ONLY GSXRRider 02-16-2008, 12:36 PM I'm not a certified mechanic so I wont tell you the answer. I am an engineer who write maintenance manuals. ganzhimself 02-16-2008, 12:36 PM Yes... It depends on how much diesel was added though. Adding diesel to regular unleaded gas will lower the octane and the fuel vaporization will be reduced. The result? Knock. If the car has a knock sensor it will attempt to correct for the lower octane. This could make trouble for engine timing in the short run. If there is significant knock you will end up with metal fatigue, and eventually critical components, such as connecting rods, pistons, and heads will fail. The reduced volatility will lead to harder starting, which could damage the starter and ignition system, and you will most likely have unburnt hydrocarbons that will contribute to catalytic converter failure. Basically, if you add enough diesel to cause engine knock, drain your fuel tank and start over with just unleaded. C7S 02-16-2008, 02:49 PM Yes. The entire engine would be damaged. Many people have tried putting Diesel in their gas engines and There car did not last a mile without breaking down. The cost to fix is very expensive. They need to empty and clean or replace your gas tank and open up your engine to take the diesel out. Even if you try it, you probably will not be able to put the diesel in because it does not fit in the hole under the gas cap. rugbymanvince 02-16-2008, 02:49 PM not a professional but i do know Honda/acura it will not damage the car. you WILL need to flush the fuel system, & possibly replace the fuel filter, fuel injectors and fuel pump Officer E 02-16-2008, 02:49 PM Listen, if a car is made to be fueled only by unleaded gas then that means that diesel is not meant or made for that car in which it will result in some damage to the engine or fuel system. Besides, why would you want to use diesel on a 4 cylinder anyways? If you have a Type S then it requires 91 octane or higher. |
