I need to get my timing belt and water pump replaced, its been 100,000 km , just wondering, what exactly these things do, i want to know more about my car, and just how much this would cost to take care of, my dealership says almost a 1000, including labour, does this seem right.

Yep thats about right and those parts are the lifeline of the car the timing belt turns the motor and the water pump pumps the coolant thru the engine. Just the pump and the belt plus other seals and etc parts is gonna run about 400+ if you think you can do it yourself but since it's a more luxury acura yeah 1000 sounds right.
i just did my integra and they quoted me I think 600 but I did it myself for only the price of the parts.
